Meet the Team – Jackson Hagan

Introducing the people behind the scenes at DPS, the company bringing you the Disability Support Guide and Talking Disability, to help you get to know us a little better and give insight into what we do. Next up in our Q&A series is our Web Developer Jackson Hagan.

How long have you been with DPS?

I joined DPS Publishing in November 2019. Before working here, I studied two separate diplomas in software and website development and worked as a fruit and veg stacker in a supermarket. It is my first job since receiving those diplomas so I’m fortunate to have the opportunity here at DPS.

What is your role?

I work as a Website Developer at DPS and I’m the primary front end developer on the team. My job as a front end developer means that I get to design and build interfaces that provide positive user experiences. I also provide IT support to the DPS staff.

What are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m working on redesigning our website’s search interface with the aim of providing our users with a more intuitive design so that their experience in finding what they are looking for is smooth and effortless.

What are some of the things you’ve learnt in this role?

Since working at DPS, I’ve picked up a variety of new technologies to help with my web development. The quality of my code has also increased in a way that has become more readable, maintainable and easier to test.

What are the biggest challenges in your role?

Trying to create the perfect user experience for anyone visiting our sites.

What gives you the greatest satisfaction in your role?

Seeing my imagination come to life and knowing that people will use what I build. Being able to solve a problem that you’ve been stuck on is also an amazing feeling.

Now for some more lighthearted questions, which team member would you most like to be stuck on a desert island with and why?

If I was stuck on a desert island I’d probably choose to be stuck with Aaron (Lead Developer and IT Team Leader). He’s someone that I know I can trust and constantly rely on. He’s someone who I believe is knowledgeable and gives me the best chance of survival.

What’s your favourite movie?

My favourite movie is Inception. It has an amazing cast with great performances, some fantastic action scenes and an awesome plot. Not to mention an incredible score by Hanz Zimmer. I’ve watched this movie many times and I cannot recommend it enough.
